Restorative Yoga for the Cancer Journey

In 2018, DCMH Foundation awarded a scholarship to a massage therapist working in Grand Mesa Oncology to become certified as a yoga instructor for people going through cancer treatment. For almost two years, the instructor was able to hold a restorative yoga class twice a week for Grand Mesa Oncology patients. This was one of many integrated therapies offered at Grand Mesa Oncology.

Integrated therapies are nonsurgical treatments that utilize holistic approaches to promoting optimal healing of the mind, body, and spirit — which means there is little to no risk of undergoing such therapy. Specifically, restorative yoga typically involves a limited number of poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Held for 5 minutes or more, restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends.

At the end of January, this class transitioned to Columbine Massage and Wellness at 326 Main St in Delta and is now available to anyone fighting cancer, regardless of where you receive treatment, or where you are on your cancer journey. Restorative Yoga for the Cancer Journey is free for participants and supported by DCMH Foundation.

Grand Mesa Oncology, DCMH Foundation, and Columbine Wellness all hope this class can support people experiencing cancer.
